On Friday, May 4th, Calgarians celebrated the city’s 6th Annual Bike to Work Day.The event is intended to promote cycling as a healthy, efficient, convenient, low-cost means of transport which contributes to a reduction of inner city traffic congestion and pollution. To help raise awareness, members of Bike Calgary hosted an informal group ride, which took several City of Calgary Aldermen and staff from City Hall to meet up with fellow participants at Eau Claire Market.
There was some discussion amongst ITE (Institute of Transportation Engineers) members earlier this week regarding relevant data for the expected increase in bicycle and pedestrian numbers (and decreses in vehicular traffic) when constructing bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
