Who thinks to organize a massive run on the pathway for 7:30 am on a friday?
No notice or anything warning everybody else that there was a run planned.
Next to no one had lights and I watched one other cyclist hit the deck after a runner jumped out in front of him after he gave about a gazillion warnings that he was passing.
Anyone know who organized this so I can avoid buying anything from their sponsors?

its a fundraiser that the cbc has been organizing for many years and always happens around this time, on a friday morning.
call the cbc and complain - maybe that will get the organizer (angus?) to do a better job of warning other pathway users.
oh ya, they raised $15,000 for the food bank.

I appreciate that its a charity run, but maybe they should move it up to 9:00 am when there's less people trying to get to work and there's more light.
They did have people underneath crowchild warning that there were runners ahead and I had no problem slowing down for that stretch, but it got ridiculous when it was pack after pack of people taking up 3/4 of the pathway, leaving only the icy margins to try and move around.
Thanks for the info, I think I'll politely suggest that CBC rethink the timing a little.

Or maybe its a little like the runner's equivalent of the Bow River Flow? They take over the pathways for one morning a year?

Doesn't anyone listen to CBC? I have participated twice now thought this event was known enough no to mention it here? The money went to the food bank's milk for kids program... the timing probably won't change as people would have to take more time away from work... maybe some better instrutions and marshalling might help out. The path was very icy and I slipped pretty good on the north side of the bow ... and again brownsnow sucks...

My wife is doing a free-lance article on commuter cycling and decided that today was the day for the photo shoot. She wanted the sunrise over the city from the Memorial Dr. pedestrian overpass with me riding by (lucky me, I get to be the model for these projects). I knew the 'Amble with Angus' was happening but did not know the route, and had assumed they would head toward downtown. Turns out we were right in the middle of it! It was a long time between shots, waiting for the groups of runners to pass. Lots of people in festive costumes, some with Christmas lights, lots of dogs with blinkies on them. A goodly number of cyclists passed us too. The shoot turned out OK and the runners and walkers seemed to be having a good time, but my feet sure got cold!

IIRC, the timing on the Amble is such that they can get the run done and get people off to work. That said, if they aren't going to close the path, then the organizers should have the wits to remind the participants that they are not the only users of the pathway system. This makes a good case for a REALLY bright light and an airhorn...

While I'm not familiar with the event I think, from what I've seen posted, that it was for a worthy cause and we shouldn't frown upon it. Of course I came in a bit late this morning so I didn't actually get caught up in the middle of it...
Yes, event organizers should remind participants that they don't have exclusive rights to the pathway and need to share with other users is essential.
Yes, signage notifying other pathway users that there is an event in progress is essential.
The City should have some type of policy or recommendations event organizers need to follow regarding appropriate pathway signage in these cases (though I'm not holding my breath).

I apologize if I was being a bit harsh (written while I was a little annoyed). I applaud the intent of the run, just not the execution.
Just give me notice ahead of time that there is something going on, just like bike races/rides have to do with residents that may be affected, and I don't have a problem

I'm sure they have to get a permit from Parks and Rec to run the event on the path. In the end it is the riders responsibility to safely negotiate around other path users. In the winter the designated bike path becomes multi user and we are again on the bottom of the rung. $15000 for the food bank at this time of year will make a lot of people happy.
