Had a nice trip out to eastlands at COP for a couple of big loops. What a gem in the city! We only ran into one other group in a 2 hour ride. Nice to ride in the trees on a day like today.
My wife and I headed to Canmore and rode the Legacy Trail into Banff. What a great piece of infrastructure. My only complaint is that it just kind of ends once you hit Banff, and there is no signage, as to how to continue. You're just stranded on the wrong side of the highway. We ended up crossing and riding in to town on Banff Avenue, but the traffic was really heavy, and my wife isn't comfortable in traffic. We cut through Banff hopped on the Trans Canada, and looped back to the trail via a service road.
We stopped on the way back at the Lake Minawanka (I think thats the name) rest/camp site and had a lunch. This is such a gorgeous trail, and well used, we ran in to A LOT of other cyclists.
It was also my first real ride clipless, and I have to say I'm starting really love it, but I haven't managed to fall over yet.
I have noticed a bike trail on the west side of Banff that looks like it would connect to the 1A. I assumed it was also connected to the bike trail on the East side of Banff but I guess not.
They paved a piece of trail that existed for years at the far west end of the road that goes by Vermillion Lakes.
So, take a West turn immediately south of the #1 before you head up the Norquay road. Where this road ends you can continue to a gate in the animal fence, and onwards to the 1A (before, you had to ride on the wrong side of the highway and the trail was dirt).
I rode that bit this weekend. We actually started in Banff, rode to the Cave and Basin, and from there you can ride a trail to the Sunshine turnoff. Then a short bit along the highway until you get to the Parkway where the trail starts. Then rode to Banff where the Wife picked up the car, and I kept going to Canmore on the Legacy train. 50km of fun!
I had two good rides this weekend. Took the family out to do the Glenmore loop on Sunday. What a beautiful day. We parked right at Heritage park and did the Reservoir in a clockwise direction. My wife hated the climb up to North Glenmore park and wouldn't (or couldn't) talk to me for a little while (even though I was the one towing the two monkeys in the charriot) We had a picnic lunch at North Glenmore, and finished the ride back at Heritage park.
Second ride was a whopping 2km with my 4yr old daughter. Apperantly it is no longer fun to go in the charriot, and she wanted to ride her bike with me (training wheels and all). We hit the pathway in Okotoks for a leisurly 2km 60 minute ride (I had the charriot just in case she petered out) She loved it and would push on up the hills, and barrel down them. By far my favorite ride of the year (even though I was stopped most of the time)
Did anyone do the Bow river flow this weekend? I think we'll to the Bow path next Sunday (If I can convince my 4yr old to go back in the charriot)
Did about 60km on Hwy 22/22X on Saturday but was feeling really lazy because of the heat. Probably would have hid indoors but I finished building a new road bike (my first) and could not resist a test ride. Lots of cyclists out there!

Was there helping my son this morning. 1200+ competitors in multiple distances. Races both Saturday and Sunday.
IMC next weekend - I'm a volunteer but will get some rides in over the next week in the area and should have great temps.

I keep hearing this same complaint. Does anybody have a GPS log of this trip? It sounds really neat.
Check this out.

I found this route on my return to Banff from a BVP ride. You can see the road/path on the satellite view if you zoom in. It's very good.

Bike Calgary had a tent at the Bow Flow, myself and a few other notables (speak up y'all) tended it and chatted with folks.
