How Was your Ride Today? Week of January 2

For most of us, daily commutes don't start until tomorrow, but if you're out today, tell us how your ride went!

Ideal conditions

What a way to start the new year's commutes: mild temperatures, negligible wind, very light traffic, streets are practically bare of snow and ice -- great ride in this morning.  And if you haven't seen the temperatures in this week's forecast yet, do so -- sure to bring a smile to your face! Smile

ditto

Just amazing road conditions this morning. Dry as a bone. I was wishing for two sets of rims during the ride in. I could have swapped my studded tires for summer slicks. Laughing

You're Not Weird

I've been off for a while and really missed my commute.

I'm riding tomorrow and don't give a crap about 90kmh gusts!

I'll tell you what's weird - I've packed shorts & full fingered gloves for the ride home tomorrow (+13C!! Yawhzer!)

First of 2012 for me!

What a great day for my first commute of the year! I'm sure the last couple of days were equally good. Glad to be back on the bike; I get tight quads when I'm off for more than a weekend. Might be gusty on the way home, but I can use the post-holiday effort!

$&#@!!!!

The 10th Avenue bike lane continues to draw attention.  Last night a passenger leaned out his window (at a safe distance) and yelled "use the f***ing sidewalk you *#@*!!!"  The driver then moved into the bike lane and continued on.   Funny how someone can be trapped in 3 solid blocks of gridlock, but the sight of a bike sends them into the stratosphere.

I could care less.  The commute continues to be awesome:  dry, warm and friendly.

My shortest poem I've ever written (2 words)

I love it when you pedal effortlessly and go 35kmh and it's silent.

The downside was that when I was going south across the top of the hill in Bowmont Park (fully exposed to the wind), a gust hit me and just about knocked me over!!  It caused me to swerve about one meter, Yikes!

Otherwise, a great ride in!

1st Ride of 2012

After 3 weeks off of the bike doing absolutely nothing but eat and play with the kids, this morning tailwind was a nice re-intro to riding, other than bailing on one stretch of chunky ice on Quarry Trail (still don't have my usual winter bike with studs yet, and it shows).

What beautiful weather!!!!!!

John

yes it is!!!

and it's awesome.  I just hope that soon they will finish the surronding infrastructure soon.

But it is an engineering marvel much anticipated and appreciated!  I don't miss waiting and breathing hard at that super long light amidst car exhaust at all!

Beautiful morning with a moon!

Was nice and early this morning (~5:45am) and saw a wonderful, big moon out to the west as I came out onto the top of Bowmont park. I also heard some coyotes calling. Otherwise, was a mostly quiet ride. It seemed pretty calm and I felt good and was cooking along. Passed a few reasonably visible runners, one of whom called 'Bike coming!' to the runners ahead of him, right after I called 'On your left!' It felt like it was all excellent pathway users this morning!

Nice

I have moved 2x in the past 7 weeks (long story) and during all that chaos I spent more time in the car than I would have liked (all that moving stuff around). Finally settled in for the long haul in a new place, great location for me (old stomping grounds) and been on the bike 3x this week which has been great. Sure have been missing the rides. I overdressed a few times, road the studded ride a few times and decided its too much, rode the slicks today and felt awesome going fast again. A few scary patches out there but no concern if you are alert.

All in all.... I love two wheels. <3
