There are still a number of signs in the northbound bike lane on 11st SW. There looks to be a bit of room to squeek by on a bike. Maybe the bar has to be raised on accomodating active modes in construction zones?

UMMMMHHH... QUESTION!

They put signs that say "yield to pedestrians" in the middle of a bike lane? How Freakin' Bizarre!
It is ironic that somebody thought they should post those signs in favor of increasing the level of safety for pedestrians while decreasing the level of safety & convenience for cyclists - it seems almost discriminatory......
just put them on the sidewalk

just put them on the sidewalk?
My thought exactly

As I rode home through there last night I was thinking I should just stop and put them all on the sidewalk.
I have not yet felt endangered by the situation as traffic flow when I go through there usually leaves the curb lane free for bikes to use, but the whole situation seems absurd.
Maybe I'll just call 311 and complain.
I shake my head at the signs

I shake my head at the signs everyday on my way home, but have actually run into more problems with vehicles turning across the bike lane without signaling (or seemingly shoulder/mirror checking) at the alley mouth on the other side of the intersection. I find that most drivers are quite considerate near the signs.
I agree

but the vehicles emerging from the laneway onto 11th street are also a hazard. So glad somebody brought this up. Everyday I think it is a bit of a death trap for bikes. Only because the belief is that a "safe" bikes only path exists when in fact we are required to dodge in and out of the lane of vehicular traffic. I keep meaning to contact 311 but by the time I get home I have forgotten all about it. OK, this time for sure I'll send a message.

I put in a 311 request a while ago on this. The call was closed shortly after.

Figured I'd add my voice so that we can hopefully get some resolution.
Any updates?

11 Street SW Update
Submitted by bclark on
I heard back from the City today. Roads has requested the lanes be cleared of signs. I also received information that 10th St will soon be open to traffic (May 7th) but that, unfortunately 11th St will again be closed for another four to six weeks while they finish the final phase of the LRT crossing. Please let 3-1-1 know if the loss of bicycle facilities during this time period is impacting you.
Excellent

Excellent. Thanks Brent. The signs generated lots of chuckles and head-shakes at the Can-Bike II course this weekend.
Sorry to hear that 11th St will soon be out of commission as a bike route again, though.
Still there on May 13th

Rode from MEC over to the river via 11th St today around noon. It still looks like Brent's photo from late April. Guess I'll try my luck with 3-1-1 tomorrow.

Rode by there yesterday and it looked like the signs are now only slightly protruding into the bike lane as opposed to completely blocking it.
