11St SW Bike Lane - Obstacle Course

There are still a number of signs in the northbound bike lane on 11st SW.  There looks to be a bit of room to squeek by on a bike.  Maybe the bar has to be raised on accomodating active modes in construction zones?

UMMMMHHH... QUESTION!

They put signs that say "yield to pedestrians" in the middle of a bike lane?  How Freakin' Bizarre!

It is ironic that somebody thought they should post those signs in favor of increasing the level of safety for pedestrians while decreasing the level of safety & convenience for cyclists - it seems almost discriminatory......

My thought exactly

As I rode home through there last night I was thinking I should just stop and put them all on the sidewalk.

I have not yet felt endangered by the situation as traffic flow when I go through there usually leaves the curb lane free for bikes to use, but the whole situation seems absurd.

Maybe I'll just call 311 and complain.

I shake my head at the signs

I shake my head at the signs everyday on my way home, but have actually run into more problems with vehicles turning across the bike lane without signaling (or seemingly shoulder/mirror checking) at the alley mouth on the other side of the intersection. I find that most drivers are quite considerate near the signs.

I agree

but the vehicles emerging from the laneway onto 11th street are also a hazard. So glad somebody brought this up. Everyday I think it is a bit of a death trap for bikes. Only because the belief is that a "safe" bikes only path exists when in fact we are required to dodge in and out of the lane of vehicular traffic. I keep meaning to contact 311 but by the time I get home I have forgotten all about it. OK, this time for sure I'll send a message.

Excellent

Excellent. Thanks Brent. The signs generated lots of chuckles and head-shakes at the Can-Bike II course this weekend.

Sorry to hear that 11th St will soon be out of commission as a bike route again, though. Frown
