As defined by Wikipedia, a Tweed Ride (aka Tweed Run) originated in London in 2009 and is a group bicycle ride in which the cyclists are expected to dress in traditional British cycling attire, particularly tweed plus four suits. For the ladies, just do your best to look like an old fashioned Brit and Google searching is always a good tool! Any bicycle is acceptable on the Tweed Ride, but classic vintage bicycles are encouraged. Some effort to recreate the spirit of a bygone era is always appreciated.
This will be the first Tweed Ride for Calgary and it will hopefully become an annual event. The route can be found here: http://g.co/maps/64jyr and is about 14km long but will be a relaxed ride for all levels of riders. We will be stopping off at Village Ice Cream shop, which is a new local, small batch ice cream shop, where they are opening just for us! So bring some cash if you would like some ice cream. At the end we can stop off at the Ship for a refreshing beverage!
We will be meeting at Central Memorial Park (south side) and gearing for a 2:00 departure. Just look for people in tweed and on bikes!

fun, but be even more innovative

I don't have any tweeds, but know one can dress in whatever for this ride (right?).
But BikeCalgary, don't just follow what the rest of the world does!!! Be indigenous, uniquely prairie/Calgary....have a buffalo herd ride...and dress up in crazy buffalo costumes... Or save for Hallowe'en.
Don't be a crowd follower on cycling fashion trends like other cycling chic rides...it's just too predictable, boring.
Shake it up.

But how often do we get a chance to wear tweed in Calgary? We get to dress in western wear for 10 days every year. Anywho, my roots are more Irish than British and I have a more 'unique' idea in the works, but these 'theme rides' are not for everybody and that is why you are always free to choose which ones to go to and which ones not to. Anyways, if there is a tweed ride in Calgary Victoria Day is better than Halloween, especially since the number of riders drops dramatically at that time.
The ride Richard suggests is exactly what you are after though, and it looks like fun. Apparently it was a blast last year.

I think a tweed ride is a great idea for Calgary - especially considering we've never had one here.
