I bought a third hand Adams trail-a-bike that's in not too bad shape. What I was wondering, how much side to side play should it have? It kind of tilts in a way that reminds me of how a kid's bike tilts when it has training wheels on it. My guess is that as my daughter gets used to balancing, she'll be able to straighten it up? Or did I buy a lemon?? Thanks.

The trail-a-bike shouldn't tilt any more than the bike it's attached to. Inspect the u-joint coupling for wear, if you don't see any wear try sliding a foam hand grip over the coupling to damped the motion it's capable of.
Thanks!

I bought one used as well and it too has some side to side play. Not as much as you're describing though.. maybe a half an inch in either direction. It's nothing that you can't get used to, but enough that you have to make sure you have a good grip on the handlebars!

I found ours has about a 10-15 degree play, but it's not noticable during the ride. This was AFTER I replaced the joint bolt/nuts. Also be aware that a some models a few years ago were subject to a partial recall on the bolt/nuts. I'd recommend you go to their website to find out more details. Bow Cycle helped me through the resulting fixup without any issues.
Thanks :)

Well, I did go talk to the good people at Bow Cycle, and they too said the play was ok. My worry was that if my daughter tilted to much she could cause us to tip. The fellow at Bow Cycle assured me that the chance of that happening was very remote and all is good :)
