How was your ride today? Week of March 9th

Cold! Little if any brownsnow, lots of people doing stupid things:
- 100% blind lane changes [car]
- crossing 4 St. @ 11 Ave. against the light [pedestrian - almost got run over by a Volvo]
- aggro filtering [me]

Kind of windy

Coming in this morning, I felt like I was fighting a gale force headwind, although wx.ca shows just a light breeze.

For the last mile of the ride, I drafted a dumptruck - on the bikepath - so that worked out ok, I guess.

About that gale

Turns out I had about 20psi in my back tire, no wonder it was such a tough ride. After pumping it up, this mornings ride was much better, but still kind of chilly.

Sssso cccold and tomorrow

Sssso cccold and tomorrow morning is supposed to be worse. I know I am then one who is always cheering for winter but this is pretty cold for March! I hope things warm up a bit and we get some more snow to play in.

Mighty icy out there.

hardcore!

i have been working from home mostly this week - hiding from the cold. you folks who have been commuting this week are truly HARDCORE! BRAVO!

pogies

I talked to Steve over at Spirit West earlier this winter about making pogies, possibly as a product for him to start offering. Apparently there is a product sold in the US called Moose Mitts or something like that, that the manufacturer will not ship to Canada. Sounds like a good product to copy... or maybe you already have some good ideas based on your own experience. Steve has made other custom bike stuff for me (e.g. a cover bag for my Dahon folding bike) and he was reasonably priced, and quick to deliver. The store is on 12 Ave SW just west of 11 St. Tell him Stewart sent you!

Handwarmers

Hey there...so I'm new to this site. Just wanted to let you know that I custom make all bicycle accessories, including handwarmers. I've been doing it for the last 4yrs now. what are you interested in??

Road handwarmers

I'm currently working on my design for road bars. Having riden road for quite sometime, I came to the realization that I very rarely used the drops in winter. Having used my experience to come up with the best pattern for function & size. Completely windproof, waterproof 600-1000 grade cordura, ensures the life & wear. Soon I will post pictures for purchase!

Daylight savings time

I'm not much of a fan of the scheme. I was just getting used to not needing a headlight in the mornings and now I'm back to riding in the dark each morning.

On the other hand, the ride home yesterday was fantastic! With the sun high in the sky at 5:30, somehow it didn't seem so cold.

daylight savings

I think we should just stay on daylight time all year. It's not really worth it to change to standard for 5 months.

Honestly I just don't like calling something standard when it happens less than half of the time.

It should be light enough on my Saturday commute to go back to my summer route through an unlit park and get away from the main roads I've been on all winter.

soft right hook

I got involved in a soft right hook on the way home yesterday.
Soft, because it didn't take me down, the door skin of the car gave way more than my handlebar.

Otherwise, it sure is nice to see -10
