H1 Festival Sept. 13th

The Haultain and First Festival will take place at the corner of Haultain Park and 1st St SW (between 12th and 15th Ave) on Sunday September 13th, from 11:30 to 16:00. It's a celebration of the Victoria Crossing area.

Of interest to BikeCalgary readers, there will be bike tours of the area, free bike parking, track-stand contests (how long can you stay sitting, stopped, on your bike before you fall over?), and a tall-bike display as part of the bike show-and-shine contest.

This is an urban festival, with live music from at least five bands. Click on the image at left to visit the festival website and learn more.

if you have a fancy cruiser or something really unique, bring it too. the organizer is hoping to showcas urban bike culture.

i have also heard that there might be goldsprints too! think your fast? prove it!

when i see an adult on a bicycle, i do not despair for the future of the human race.

this...

highlights the need for some custom paint on my Cervelo P2... or at least a repaint to plain white/black with some custom skins.

Just a Thought

In order to attend this festival, many of us will travel right past the Mustard Seed. As this is a celebration of community and sustainability perhaps we can bring a little something to contribute to the Mustard Seed. Just planting a "seed" of a thought here.

September 13?

There's something else going on that day?
Oh yeah, the wife's b'day.
I was struggling to figure out something to do that day. Great, I now know what we are doing.

See you there!

I walked down there with my wife. I used to live at 13 Ave. and 2 St. [in the "Albert Apartments", now a large hole in the ground], and I love the way the area has cleaned up. I didn't see a single used condom or needle. Seriously, that's a big change from 6 years ago. I saw some folks playing polo, but nobody I recognized. It's too bad that there weren't more people around, but that's the thing with these fests - you never know who will show.

we were there too

i went straight there after arriving home from Expocycle in MTL to check it out too. the new park looked really nice and it was great to see some of my polo friends banging the ball around.

what was a real bummer was where the organizer setup the bike zone - away from all the action. also a bummer was the competing sound systems near the 12th/1st intersection. it was so loud you couldnt even think!

however, i think it was great to see another street festival and hopefully the organizers will do it again next year.

Where were the crowds?

Not many people were down there when we were there between 1:30 - 2:30. I imagine that is the way the Lilac fest started though.

It is great to see that area cleaned up. Hopefully the local residents keep their enthusiasm and this area turns into another Kensington / 17th.
