I don't know why I am so cheap - it may be related to my love for a good single malt - in any case, when I saw the prices for headlamps at the bike shops I started looking for a more economical alternative. Here is what I came up with...

Picked up a LED headlight at the Liquidation Warehouse (58 Ave and 1 St SE) for $4. This is a pretty cute little unit with 7 white leds and 2 red leds. Comes with batteries too, 3xAAA.

Cut off the headband, take out a screw and reverse the base. Attach to helmet with velcro and it's good to go.

I've used it a few times over the past week and it's not too bad.
