Douglas Glen/Quarry Park to Southland and MacLeod Tr

I'm struggling with navigating the area coming out of fish creek park to get on to Southland. There is a weave lane for cars to go from Deerfoot to Southland to Blackfoot and drivers can be quite agressive in this area. The pedestrian pathway has stairs and I try to avoid sidewalks as best I can.

Does anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions?

same issue

i don't usually go this way, but did happen to ride it just this week around 5:30 pm.  And i was thinking how lucky i was that i didn't have to go that route regularly, as the traffic is crazy in that short space between the Deerfoot offramp and Blackfoot.  Luckily for me, traffic was at a standstill due to cars changing lanes, so i just filtered through to the front.

Unfortunately, i have no suggestions, only sympathy and understanding.  I think this section needs a city of Calgary solution on the stairway portion; however, my opinion is that the rest of the path is a MUP, not a sidewalk.  Having said that, there are still traffic issues getting across the right hand turn lane from Southland to Blackfoot, and the whole set up is not bike friendly.

stairs

i almost fell down the stairs this summer walking my bike down them...it's wierd they have like a lane for you to roll your bike down the stairs and for you to walk down holding it beside you...with some slippery cleats this is pretty dangerous, but was a bit too scared to ride on the road as the drivers here (as mentioned above) drive pretty fast and agressively...this needs to be address, would be nice to have the stairs removed and a path made there instead?

Deerfoot to southland out of FC

I have been riding this area you are talking about for 8 years now. If you don't want to use the Pathway and stairs area you are forced to be aggressive and stay on the road. If traffic is slow ride the dotted line up to the traffic lights. If traffic is at a stand still just weave your way through this is the best time to hit this area since you can look at every drivers eyes and know they see you. If traffic is moving fast wait for your hole shot and ride next to the curb by the pathway. Make sure to shoulder check numerous times on the way up to the traffic light. Use hand signals! Cars get moving fast when they want to get onto Blackfoot. Hope this helps.

There is a bridge arcoss

There is a bridge arcoss river just east of the parking lot entrance off of Southland. You could also park in the transit park and ride in Douglas Glen, 5 minutes on the street and you are at the river.
