1st Annual (I hope) Kids CAN-BIKE Festival needs volunteers!!

Sunday June 24. 4 sessions, 90 minutes each with 1/2 hour break between sessions. 1st session starts at 9:30am (must arrive by 8:45). Full day (instructors will be paid) or 1/2 day volunteers. Currently have 1 confirmed session, but looking for 3 more! Don't want to instruct? Each instructor also needs at least one assistant, preferably 2. A training session will be provided!

Here's what instructors teach/do (8-13 year olds, 8 students max per instructor):
- Helmet & Clothing Check
- Bike Fit & Bike Check (ABC Quick Check)
- Straight Line Riding
- Shoulder Checking
- Signalling
- Braking/Stopping (not the threshold stop)
- "Stop & Go" (gearing)
- Bike Security

I also need 3-4 people for the Young Rider's Centre (for 5-7 yr olds). This is not formal instructional sessions, but will kind of be more of an activity area for the little kids. Parents are required to be involved.
Things taught:
- helmet fit & adjustments
- how to fit & check a bike
- how to lock a bike
Discussions on:
- road hazards
- road sign identification (basic)
- riding on the sidewalk
- crossing the street
- making good decisions
If space permits, we will also have space for the little ones to practice:
- start & coast
- start & pedal
- start, pedal, stop
A colouring table will be set up (all bike-related pages), and potentially bike decorating station.

Also need volunteers for registration, information, site supervisor, first aid (can have other roles), bike mechanic, greeter/crowd management, food pickup.

Water & juice will be provided for everyone. Full-day volunteers will also get lunch (subway or similar).

Have kids of your own? Volunteer's kids can participate at cost ($5 - for insurance)!!
