11 St SW – Closed again!

Hi Everyone,

Just FYI that 11 St SW will be closed again at 7th Ave until July 5 (or later... as is usual). This will impact you if you're coming to Mewata Armouries from the north to the 6th St/7th St SW bike lane consultation on June 13th. It will also impact you every day if you're me and use that road to get everywhere else in the city N. of the river from my Beltline home. Generally traffic has been very backed up in this area during rush hour, and the detour is espcially slow at the 4 way stop on 10th St. and 8th Ave SW. Unless, of course, you're on a bike.

Cheers,

Ben

another way

yes, it has been closed for a couple of weeks now but on the northbound route I still take 11th and use the construction sidewalk that routes thru' the gravel parking lot and then have all lanes to myself when I emerge back onto 11th to cross over to the pathway. I like doing that better than turning at the 4 way at 10th and taking the back lane. Just a suggestion.

11 St Closure

I don't think construction workers can tell you you can't use the sidewalk. They have once again sealed off an important bike route. They could have made a much wider temporary access, but they didn't. I have been using the sidewalk every day. I just take my time if there are pedestrians. The City should have better rules about closures on bike routes. Just like they should use better quality paint to mark bike lanes.

I like that 11th Street SW is

I like that 11th Street SW is closed to shut off the high flow of motorists.  Too many drivers.  But they should have tried to have a bike route though it as a measure of being a good neighbour.  However, they may need to close it all off because of the LRT tracks and the installation work.

I want to address another thorny issue in this area.  It is very difficult to cross 9th Av at 11th Street during rush hour.  The walk is only 15 sec long and you literally have to run.  Slow walkers are not given enough time to cross with ease.  Then it's 3-5 min. of east bound traffic on 9th and you shiver in the cold.  IT is unfair for pedestrians having to wait so long to cross, then given only 20s before the next red light.  How shameful.
