Back to School: Routes to Universities (and Colleges)?

School has started or is officially starting next week at Calgary's colleges.  Do you ride to UofC, MRU, SAIT, ACAD?  Share your preferred routes to get there on this map:

It's editable by anyone. Clicking on the link while logged in to your Google/Gmail account. Then ask Google maps for cycling directions, adjust as needed. At the end of the turn-by-turn directions on the left, there's a link that says "Save to My Maps". Click that, then choose "Safe Routes to Calgary's Universities".  Add comments to the route itself if appropriate.

As far as I know, only Mount Royal has cycling-specific information on their website. University of Calgary students, staff, and faculty are pretty much on their own: no directions, cycling, or parking maps.  There is a bike lockup coming, I hear, but still don't know when or where.

Added my commute

I used some different markers in mine - red for places to watch out, green for nice pieces of bike infrastructure. Also light blue for 'neutral' features like pedestrian crossings. Hope this doesn't make it too complicated!

U of C plans

I have been in communication with the Sustainability Office at U of C, they have plans to construct a bike shelter near ICT this Fall. Also, they are developing a "cycling infrastructure strategy" for 2013. So far, paths are shared and there are some bike racks...

Downtown to MRU

We have almost the same route critninja but I think your map says you go over that pedestrain bridge over Richmond road (that would be West of Crowchild and East of Sarcee).  I used to do that but became frustrated that I would have to traverse over grass part of the way, as well as a curb hop to get on the bridge in the first place (unless they've fixed that since).

It would be awesome if Calgary could pave a bit more through that park.  They did some last year or something (used to be that red dust stuff) but then didn't connect it to the bridge.  I'd take that route in order to cut out a traffic light for sure!

will that work?

I thought I should call the alderman or something, since it's an infrastructure complaint rather than a simple kinda fix it thing.  Plus I thought it would be pretty obvious that it is needed, so there must be some kind of hard core reason why they didn't do it.

I'm certainly willing to give it a shot though.  I'd rather send an email with a map etc, not sure how I'd explain it over the phone.

I will give it a shot

I've written a few grant applications in my time as well as some midnight last minute term papers so I think I'm well equipped to make a persuasive case :)  Maybe I will write one for the ped bridge over Bow trail too - a bit of a dogs breakfast that one is too.
