Major Improvements for Cyclists on the City of Calgary 3-1-1 Online System

Dialogue initiated by Bike Calgary with the City of Calgary in December 2011 has resulted in significant changes to the City’s 3-1-1 Online System. Users of Calgary's bikeways and pathways now have a range of explicit options in the online system for reporting issues and requests to the City, requesting information from the city, and for the City to track and categorize them.

The new cycling-related options as of September 2012 include two new options, one for reporting pathway issues (with a map picker), and one for other cycling-related inquiries, including requesting a bike rack, curb ramp, or new bike route.

We hope that these upgrades result in more feedback provided to the city, and this in turn in a more functional, efficient and connected bike network. So submit your service requests often!

Pathway Issues

A new option, "Pathway/Bikeway Concern", allows pathway users to submit pathway issues to the Parks Department, including:

Closures / Detours
Cracks / Potholes / Tree Roots
Debris / Gravel on pathway
Erosion of pathway
Overgrown Trees / Bushes / Vegetation
Pathway signs
Posts / Gates / Bollards
Request for New / Missing Pathway
Snow / Ice Removal
Water Pooling on pathway

This is especially welcome, as being able to use the online system now means locations can easily be reported with a map picker. Note, however, that contrary to what the label may suggestion, this option only concerns off-street pathways, not on-street bikeways.
