I came across the blog of a guy that built a homebrew trailer for his bike that he uses to take his kayak down to the lake for a paddle. Looks like he started with an old Burley trailer and modded it with some wood. Pretty simple project, really. And it takes another car off the road!
Homebrew kayak trailer for bike

not the only one

That guy is not the only one to have done it. There's a local Calgary example from the year 2003: two guys on a tandem folding bike towed their canoe all the way from Cowtown up to Bow Lake, then (after hiking up to Bow Glacier), paddled all the way back to Calgary, and filmed their adventure.
That guy is me!

I saw the link in my referrer logs. Thanks for the recognition! :-)
Just FYI for those who are thinking of doing this. It was actually an old Bell trailer, not a Burley, but I don't see any reason that it would matter much, though I have seen many bike trailers that don't have a true frame, and those wouldn't work.
