Rain Gear

I've been caught in the rain a few times now. It's not been so bad because it was on the way home and I can shower and dry off there. I have kind of a windbreaker shell that I wear when it gets sprinkly out, but it doesn't really stop water infiltration. It's more geared to keeping some measure of body heat in. I also usually ride in shorts rain or shine. I guess I'm kind of oblivious to the weather most days (just keep pedaling no matter what they throw at me).

However, it does make me wonder what everyone wears when they know it's going to be raining. Are rain ponchos the vogue? Helmet covers? Gloves? Or do you just pack your clothes in a watertight bag and try to find a place to hang your riding skivvies to dry at work?

I wear MEC whoosh rain

I wear MEC whoosh rain jacket and pants. If its cooler,I wear bike gloves. The jacket breaths well, has pit zips for better ventilation, only has 1 pocket though. Both jacket and pants have kept me dry in thunder storm type down pours. If rain is forecast,I just roll them up and tie them to my handle bars with Velcro pant leg straps.( Velcro straps #1 accessory,I use them to tie everything except what they were made for )

wool

Wool is really good in the wet, as it stays warm. I find that no matter what you wear, if it's raining you're going to get wet.

If it's really pouring, booties and gloves are good and something (a rain cape or jacket) is good to keep the worst out. If you want waterproof panniers, I suggest "Ortlieb".

Goretex-type stuff is best in the winter to keep the cold wind out (and theoretically allow some of the moisture to escape).
