Frans is a senior environmental consultant with a background in chemical engineering and laboratory sciences. He has more than 30 years of technical and project management experience in the consulting industry, both in the Netherlands and Canada. In 1994 Frans moved to Calgary and in the late 1990s he became involved in bike advocacy. He was advocacy director for the Elbow Valley Cycle Club from approximately 1999 to 2000, co-chaired the City of Calgary’s Calgary Pathway and Bikeway Advisory Council (CPAC) during much of that period and is one of the founding members of Bike Calgary. He has been on Bike Calgary’s Board of Directors for approximately 10 years.
Seema is a co-founder, and director of Earth Educators Inc. has M.Sc. in Sustainable Development from Haskayne School of Business. Along with being an educationist, she provides solutions for corporate social responsibility (CSR), inclusive growth and social innovation. She works with NGO’s to develop, coach and execute constructive stakeholder engagement, assess social impacts, and initiate and improve social return on investment (SROI) processes to engage a variety of stakeholders. She also provides expertise in program development, implementation, assessment, and evaluation in areas of education and training. She believes education and training can bring paradigm shift towards much needed holistic and sustainable living for our present and future generations.
She was elected to Bike Calgary Board in 2017.
Garry Lohuis, P. Eng.
Garry is a graduate Petroleum Engineer with over 35 years of experience in the natural resources industry. He is currently a director of Petrox Resources Corp. a publicly traded junior oil and gas company and is a member of the audit and reserves committees. Garry most recently was the President of Athlone Energy Ltd. And Lift Resources Inc. both successful junior oil and gas companies. He has worked both in Canada and the Netherlands where he developed his passion for cycling. Garry’s primary responsibility for Bike Calgary is in corporate fund raising.
Agustín joined Bike Calgary in 2012, when he moved back to Calgary after eight years away. After starting as the representative for Ward 8, he was elected to the Board of Directors in 2014 and has served as president since 2015.
As a professional engineer, Agustín has worked in the renewable energy industry since 2004 and is currently a manager at WSP, where he manages a small team and oversees projects for several of North America’s leading renewable energy developers, owners, and financiers.
Gary has been a cycle commuter for nearly two decades, and a recreational cyclist since he could stay up on two wheels. As an environmental scientist and professional geologist working in the oil and gas sector, Gary is aware of the environmental impacts of transportation choices, and as a cycle commuter, he has realized the benefits to health and community associated with effective cycling infrastructure. He joined Bike Calgary as a Director in 2015 to help promote cycling and cycling infrastructure in Calgary, in order to deliver environmental, social, and health benefits. When Gary is not working on cycling or environmental matters, he can usually be found playing in the mountains – trail running, climbing, or skiing.
Krista has been an avid recreational cyclists and cycling commuter for over twenty years living in a variety of urban and rural communities across Canada. She has an engineering degree from Toronto. Before settling in Calgary in 2007, she worked for a national oil and gas firm in Toronto, as a teacher and radio host in northern British Columbia, and furthered her academic career in Vancouver. Since then, she has spent the last ten years in government relations for the oil and gas industry on environmental issues, including greenhouse gas emissions. She joined the Bike Calgary Board of Directors as Secretary in October 2016 having been inspired by the society’s strong community and its approach to advocating for the city’s cycling infrastructure.
Jessica Shumlich joined the Bike Calgary Board of Directors in 2016 as Treasurer after returning to Calgary after two years living in the Netherlands. Jessica is an advocate for sustainable development, healthy living and community advocacy. She currently works as an Environmental Engineer in Oil and Gas. Her passions include family and friends, travel and learning about different cultures, and anything that gets her outside including exploring the mountains at the door step of Calgary.
