Over the past year and a half, Bike Calgary volunteers have been participating in the Calgary Climate Hub's "Community Climate Conversations". 14 and 15 Ave SW Mobility Improvements – Upcoming Project

The City of Calgary is looking into options to improve mobility connections in the Beltline on 14 and 15 Ave SW. These streets were converted to one-way traffic and painted bike lines were added as part of the 17 Avenue SW street reconstruction between 2017 and 2019. Spot the bike infrastructure! Check out the project website here: https://engage.calgary.ca/1415Ave This project was also listed as a possible recipient for Provincial Government infrastructure stimulus funding (see page 13). The results from Phase 1 of public engagement were just released. The results show strong support and many comments in favour of a protected cycling connection. As part of their Neighbourhood Streets Project, the City of Calgary has implemented some temporary traffic calming measures in the communities of Crescent Heights, Mount Pleasant, and Tuxedo Park. These changes divert traffic with the intention of lowering cut-through traffic volumes on 2 Street NW and 1 Street NE. Diagonal Diverter for motor vehicles at 2 St NW and 22 St NW 2 Street NW and 1 Street NE are well-used neighbourhood bikeways in these communities and Bike Calgary is reviewing community feedback and looking to learn more about this pilot, which has the potential to increase user safety and comfort. Calgary City Council will again be hearing from citizens at a public hearing meeting of council as to whether speed limits should be reduced on residential streets. This will be done by changing the "default" speed limit in the city from the current 50 km/h. Higher-speed roads would have speed limit signs clarifying any differences from the default speed limit. Last week, members of Bike Calgary's infrastructure task force took a spin through Inglewood to check out some new intersection improvements and a short section of raised cycle track along 9 Avenue SE. Here is the link to the project website: This project improves a missing link in the cycling network, connecting destinations such as the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, International Ave (17 Ave SE), Pearce Estate Park, Calgary Zoo, and Inglewood's 9 Ave main street.
