SUMMARY:Let's talk about bike infrastructure - Free Online Seminar
DESCRIPTION:HOSTED BY THE DUTCH CANADIAN BUSINESS CLUB \nCities and towns of all sizes are working fast to remake their transportation systems to address climate\, livability and safety goals. Mostly known for its widespread use of bikes\, The Netherlands is an established global leader for its comprehensive approach to active transportation and people-oriented public spaces. Dutch practice has long been a major source of influence and inspiration for North American planners and policy-makers working to rebalance mobility to undo the negative effects of excessively car-focused urban planning and design. But even in Amsterdam\, it wasn’t always this way. \nWe’ll examine some recent experiences of Canadian communities “translating” Dutch-inspired transportation ideas to the North American context (Spoiler: it’s not a simple copy and paste exercise!) From policy and leadership to multi-modal network planning and the implementation of next-generation protected bike lanes and intersections\, we’ll offer practical lessons for peer communities working to build mobility resiliency and bring a more human-scaled approach to their streets. \nTo sign-up\, please visit: Let’s talk about bike infrastructure – Free Online Seminar Tickets\, Thu\, 16 Mar 2023 at 7:00 PM | Eventbrite

DESCRIPTION:If you would like to donate your bike/s\, you can drop it off on May 7\, 2022 (Saturday) from 8AM to 4PM at Sundridge Mall (NE Corner between AHS and HBC) at 2525 36 St. NE \nWhat happens to donated bikes (from Alberta Bike Swap’s website FAQ | Alberta Bike Swap)? \n“Your bike will stay in the city or its surrounding area to help those in need. The $2.00 entrance fee we collect goes to the group fixing these donated bikes.  We also have a bin for collection of parts to stock the shelves for great local non-profits that re-build bikes within your community. \nWe’re not just local\, we help international causes too.  Many of the bikes at the Calgary Swap are from Bicycles for Humanity; the sale of these bikes will fund the container costs for bikes sent abroad.  We volunteer and appreciate this great group too.” \nFor more information\, visit: Calgary | Alberta Bike Swap

SUMMARY:Ward and Community Representative Orientation / Planning Session
DESCRIPTION:Ward reps are Bike Calgary’s vital links to Calgary’s communities.  They serve as points of contact for cyclists in Calgary’s neighborhoods\, and alert the Bike Calgary’s Board of Directors  or Infrastructure Task Group to cycling-related issues in their areas. Ward reps can also be Bike Calgary’s representatives at organization such as large employers or one of Calgary’s colleges or universities.  They work with the Board\, the city\, community associations\, and councillors to resolve issues and to improve cycling in Calgary’s communities. Is your community a gold mine of bike infrastructure but you aren’t sure how to let your neighbours know? Are you struggling to bike because there is a lack of bike options? Does your community have a Bike Calgary representative? If this sounds like the volunteer opportunity you have been looking for\, join us for an orientation to learn more about this “choose your own adventure” post. \nUPDATE!!!! Due to recent events\, we are moving this orientation to an online platform. \nWhen: Mar 21\, 2020 10:00 AM Mountain Time (US and Canada) \nRegister in advance for this meeting:\nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/v50qfu6przwpHfKwYEU9_QsZ_aRnEMwKmA \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. We hope to “see” you there!
