DESCRIPTION:The Alberta government has made announcements about potential changes that could impact bike lanes in our communities. These potential changes might make it harder to create the safe and connected streets many of us want to see. \nThis feels like decisions about our streets\, our safety\, our kids and our neighborhoods are at risk of being taken away from the people who actually live and bike here. \nBut we’re not powerless. Let’s come together to show support for safe transportation options for everyone. \nBike Calgary is hosting a community town hall to bring people together and spark action: \nDATE: Thursday\, May 1\, 2025 \nTIME: 6 – 7:30 p.m. \nPLACE: CommunityWise Resource Center (223 12 Ave SW\, Calgary) \nREGISTER: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/bike-calgarys-town-hall-in-support-of-bike-lanes-tickets-1333566877429 (registration is required!) \nFOOD: Pizza will be provided (thanks to a generous community donor!) \nALL AGES: We value intergenerational voices at this event (kids welcome!) \nWe’re not looking for consensus at this event\, we’re creating space for ideas\, big or small\, to take shape. You don’t need to be an expert to show up. You just need to care. This will be a space to: \n\nLearn what’s happening with the province’s proposals\nShare your thoughts\, feelings\, and experiences\nBrainstorm freely—no bad ideas\, just possibilities\nConnect with neighbours and explore ways to respond\n\nWe care about our communities. We care about having real choices in how we get around. And when we come together\, we can make sure our voices are heard and that all levels of government know how important bike lanes are! \nWhether it’s writing letters to our elected officials\, planning a fun ride\, making spoke cards\, reaching out to the media\, or trying something new\, we’re here to support ideas that grow from the ground up. \nThis isn’t just about bike lanes. DESCRIPTION:Information provided by founders and funders Chris and Laura Grant: \nCalgary Bike Swap is a non-profit bicycle buy and/or sell and/or donate event that is always the first Saturday in May in Calgary. \nWe safety check bikes brought in for sale between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. and run the bike details through our proprietary software to verify that the bike has not been flagged as stolen. At 2 p.m. we let people in with stolen bike police reports (where no one has ever found their stolen bike).  At 2:30 p.m. we open the floodgates to bike buyers where everyone has their elbows up\, children included. \nThis years event takes place on Saturday\, May 3\, 2025 at the City Centre Parkade 340-10 Ave SW from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. \nFull details available at https://albertabikeswap.ca/events/calgary/.
