Memorial Drive Bike Pathway Closures : April 1st – 20th

Starting on April 1st, the City of Calgary will be working on the Sunnyside Flood Barrier project. From April 1st – April 20th, there will be various closures of portions of the bike/shared path on the north side of the Bow River between Centre Street and 10th Street NW as the city collects data with respect to groundwater, ground conditions, and the current condition of the existing barriers.

Full details about the phases of the closures and suggested detours can be found using the links below. The Pathway Closure Summary pdf should provide all the info you need to plan your bike to work for the next month.

Current status updates of pathway closures and detours are available on the City’s new web page: http://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/Parks/Pages/Pathways/Pathway-closures.aspx

Based on feedback received last year from Bike Calgary and other cyclists, the City of Calgary is working extra hard to make sure that cyclists are aware of the closures and detour options with large digital display signs, easy to follow detour markings, path closures that won’t affect rush hour bike traffic, and an up-to-date web page. It’s awesome to know that the city listens to our members and acts on our suggestions!

Update from the City: drilling is taking a little longer than anticipated. As a result, the first phase of pathway detours along Memorial Dr. between 7 St – 5A St N.W. will be extended until April 11.

The second phase of detours between the Sunnyside C-Train Bridge to 9 St. will continue on April 9, as scheduled with the hope of finishing in one day, but it has the potential to extend to April 10.

Updates are posted on The City’s Twitter account and the interactive map on calgary.ca/pathwayclosures
