URGENT CALL-OUT: November 21-25 is budget week at the City of Calgary – Let your voices be heard!

The City of Calgary has plans and the City of Calgary has policies. But will they follow them? Only if they show up in the budget!

This opportunity only comes around once every 4 years. Starting on November 21, Council will be debating the proposed 4-year budget. It has not yet been released but should be in the coming days or weeks.

How can you help?

We strongly encourage you to send your Councilor a quick note (<-click the link) today. Let them know that you’ll be watching to see how much they allocate to improving active transportation infrastructure such as separated bike lanes, 5A (Always Available for All Ages and Abilities) Network, protected intersections, scooting, wheel-chairing, stroller-ing, bike racks, etc. Throw in a few words that make it an important issue for you. The shorter, the better, but make it about your experience.

You only have a few weeks, so make sure to get in touch with them (<- click the link) and select the option for City Policies, bylaws, or Council decisions:

If you’ve read this far and you’re still interested, then please know that we are working on more tools and ways you can help. It will be especially important once the proposed budget is released for comment in the coming days or weeks. We are also looking for folks who have a bit of time to comb through a particular section of the proposed budget to find the places where active transportation is mentioned, where it’s not, and how much is allocated for it. If you’re interested in getting involved in this aspect as well, please let us know by emailing volunteer@bikecalgary.org.
