We Need You! Calgary’s 2023-2026 Proposed Budget

Calgary’s 2023-2026 proposed budget has been released and it has very little funding for supporting active transportation. For more information, please check out our previous post.

The good thing is the budget has not been approved and there is still time to change it. There are councillors that support active transportation and that want you to speak out. The date for public submissions is Nov 22. Below is an overview of how to register or write or speak.

A Couple More Details:

  • Select Council for meeting you wish to attend
  • The agenda item is 9.2.1.
  • You can copresent with another person or group. You will get 5 minutes for every person that is presenting.
  • If you are speaking you can also share a presentation or any printed documents
  • You will be able to watch the meeting here

What to talk about?

Here are some suggestions to talk about if you need any ideas. Really the important thing is letting city council know that Calgarians support active transportation.

Why do you use active transportation? What do you like about active transportation and how has it made a difference in your life?

What are some areas or places in Calgary that you don’t bike to because of the lack of the infrastructure? What areas have you felt unsafe or had near misses or accidents due to infrastructure? How would improvements in these areas make a difference in your life?

What are some areas that have good infrastructure? How does this impact your commute?

If you are looking for an ask, Calgary Climate Hub is calling on City Council to fund at least 100km of bikeways and pathways by 2025.
