I AM IN THE PROCESS OF ATTEMPTING TO ASSEMBLE A SCHEDULE OF CT BUSES WITH DUAL-USE FATBIKE & STANDARD WIDTH CAPABLE RACKS
CALGARY TRANSIT BIKE RACK POPULATION HAS EXPLODED OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS. THIS IS A PLEASANT CHANGE FROM EVEN 3 OR 4 YEARS AGO. ALMOST ALL THE MAIN FLEET HAS BIKE RACKS NOW AND DITTO THE RECENT SHUTTLE BUS POPULATION (WITH SINGLE CHANNEL DUAL-USE FAT/STANDARD WIDTH CAPABLE RACK ON THE LATTER).
I HAVE USED THE “STANDARD” TIRE RACKS TO “COMMUTE” IN STEP WITH THE RACK AVAILABILITY AND FOUND THAT THERE IS A LARGE SUBSET OF RACKS WITH A SECOND FATBIKE/STANDARD WIDTH CAPABLE CHANNEL IN THE POPULATION I HAVE OBSERVED.
TO SEARCH WHICH BUS I CAN CATCH TO USE MY FATBIKE IN WINTER I HAVE REACHED OUT TO CALGARY TRANSIT (NOV 24, SO FAR NO REPLY AS OF DEC 26) TO ENQUIRE WHETHER THEY HAVE A SCHEDULE OF “FATRACK” BUS NUMBERS.
MY QUESTION IS:
DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE OR KNOW OF A SOURCE A LIST OF FATRACK BUS NUMBERS?
EVEN THE TRANSIT INFO LINE SEEMS SURPRISED AND UNAWARE THAT SUCH SYSTEM CAPABILITY EXISTS.
I HAVE A LIST OF APPROX 62 FATRACK BUSES IN FAR SOUTH CALGARY USE AND WOULD BE INTERESTED IN SHARING INFO WITH SIMPATICOS WHO WOULD SHARE THEIR OWN “FATRACK BUS BAGS” FOR COMMUNITY USE.
I USE THE USEFUL “TRANSIT55.CA” WEBSITE TO ESTABLISH GPS LOCATION OF CALGARY BUS NUMBERS IN SERVICE AS WELL AS THEIR ‘TRANSIT55.CA/RACKTRACK” CAPABILITY SHOWING WHICH IN-SERVICE BUSES ARE RACK EQUIPPED. THIS FUNCTION DOES NOT YET HOWEVER SHOW WHICH BUSES ARE “FATRACK” BUSES
