You know what really burns my chaps? The City shutting down the Zoo path because of a little ice form 6 weeks ago. They just shut down the pathway and give up for the season. There’s been a least 3 weeks of good weather where they could have plowed the pathway clear and returned it to open operation. Instead they don’t maintain the entire stretch and just let the snow and ice pile up. The alternative up and over St. George’s Bridge is a poor option with lots of construction, crazy drivers and mediocre maintenance.
What’s even more galling is that the zoo someone keeps there pathway, located a mere 2 ft to the north clear all season! Seriously, the City does not take cycle commuting in the winter seriously with such poor effort.
This is the main way into the CIty from the North /Northeast/ East.
Good news to report! Someone has cleared the ice from the zoo pathway! The stretch of 15 -20m of think ice has been chipped up and pushed to the side. The entire zoo pathway is running clear as of February 12. Big shout out to whomever cleared it up.
The gates are still closed and all the CoCalgary signs are still up, but it’s clear sailing!
