Why doesn’t Calgary have a more “robust” biking community for people who simply commute, and/or bike the single-track paths in our city? Everything seems geared towards bikers who can afford very expensive road bikes, “et al”. Where are the site/forums for the “average Jane and John Doe”, who simply want to bike for health/mental health/fiscal reasons/nature/et al.?
Rant over! 😉
September 19, 2022 at 9:23 pm #120425They used to be here, but all moved over the Twitter when that was hip.
I do miss the forum and all the characters who used to inhabit here, but it never recovered after the last website update.
If you want to chat with people who ride bikes in the City you have to go outside and find them! There’s so many of us now. You could also go and hang out at Bike Bike if you want the heartbeat of cycle commuting.
November 2, 2022 at 10:31 am #120523I don’t think it was just that twitter was hip.
The Forums here had a long period of time just as bicycles were starting to really “pop off” in Calgary where the website could not be loaded, or it was outright down, and then they were upgrading these forums from the old tech to the new, and then another period of time where they didn’t work correctly.
Something like that will kill a forum very quickly.Gotta just keep posting though. Some of us still come by every few months to take a peek 🙂
November 2, 2022 at 10:33 am #120524Speaking of taking a peek… It looks like the forums are still having some technical troubles! Where’d all those posts go? Half the ones I responded to in summer lost the first half of themselves. Sadly I don’t think the forums will pick up like they were in 2014-2016 without reliable tech.

I tend to look about every 3-4 months on a whim, but little to report.
Not sure where everyone went. The “upgrade” really caused a mass exodus. Somehow I think Covid did as well due to people not riding the paths quite so much. Some folks might have headed to CalgaryPuck.
July 5, 2023 at 1:03 pm #120896I’d love to see more opportunity to connect with bike commuters in Calgary. Maybe a discord server? I’ve been chatting with a few people on reddit as well as on instagram, but not sure either is the best.
We’re looking at getting a cargo bike to replace our second vehicle, and community could really be a great bi product of that. I’d love to see it anyway.
