BSNYC has a lifetime of great anecdotes. Having recently ridden a bicycle around NYC, I don’t have the focus or the energy to stay safe under those conditions. Happy that we have the pathways here for some respite.
April 29, 2019 at 7:26 am #8285The ride in from Signal Hill >> path along the West LRT line >> through Westbrook Mall >> 12 Ave next to Bow Trail >> down to the river >> along the south side to downtown was in amazing shape this morning.
Maybe 5% of the route had little skiffs of ice and any ice ridges around intersections etc, were not too large and manageable with the summer tires! Here’s hoping we don’t get any more snow!
April 29, 2019 at 10:16 am #8286Left the winter bike at home. I had been planning on going with the studs this morning just in case, but when I saw how clear and dry everything was up in Tuscany, I decided the road bike would be fine.
And it was a great ride in. I have to drive first, but from where I parked near downtown, the paths were all bone dry everywhere, great ride in!
April 29, 2019 at 6:53 pm #8294The whole ride from Tuscany is in great shape – even through Bowness Park, which usually holds snow and icy patches longer than elsewhere. They plowed the pathway through Bowness, and along the river valley paths, on Sunday and that seemed to allow the sun to keep it dry. With the low daytime highs in the next few days, that snow on the grass could be slow to melt, but at least it looks like th pathways and bike lanes will stay clear. Then we get to see how much snow we get later in the week!
May 3, 2019 at 11:54 am #8311Happy BTWD everbody. I was in a hurry to make a meeting so I missed being able to stop at one of the stations, however I’m curious as to what they had for freebies this year. Anybody stop or catch the breakfast at Eau Claire?
May 3, 2019 at 2:07 pm #8317The BWTD breakfast was great – pancakes, sausages, and coffee! Everything I needed to get me started for the day. And the best part was running into SO MANY people I got to know through riding (and other things like climbing, environmental work, etc.). I love this community!
May 3, 2019 at 9:24 pm #8318Dagnabbit I missed the big breakfast!!?? aaaaw man! hey but at least I caught the north side of Peace Bridge handouts of oranges, bars, and Honey Stingers!! hmmmmm lots of friendly volunteers and people stopping by at the relatively late hour of 750am’ish. Very much appreciated.
Even had a few words of appreciation for my ride (and confusion why I’d commute on it)… it’s a Ti frame.
Great job Team Bike Calgary!
