The City of Calgary has acquired a couple hundred bike racks and they are looking for the best City-owned locations to install them. We want to hear from you about where you think the City should put the bike racks.
Note that the locations need to be City-owned, such as parks, pathways, City-owned facilities such as pools, those open areas next to sidewalks, etc. As great as it might be to have more bike racks at your local strip mall or restaurant parking lot, these are private property and not somewhere the City can put the new racks.
Please email “theft@bikecalgary.org” with your suggestions. You may include a map location (e.g., Google Map pin drop), a photo of the location, a street address, or a general area. We will gather up your suggestions and pass them along to the right people at the City. The City has some criteria for where a rack can or should be put, so not every suggestion will result in a rack, but the City has specifically asked for our (and therefore your) help in coming up with possible locations! We will be sharing the suggested locations with the City in early August 2024, but feel free to suggest ideas anytime in 2024, as it will take a while to place all the racks.
Feel free to share this post and/or email address with any friends, family, or colleagues who might have ideas. We welcome input from all!
Thornhill pool could use a few more racks.
Also could bike racks be placed closer to buildings and not near the edge of a street where it’s too easy to steal the bike.
