Petition to extend 5 St SW Cycle Track

A group of local cycling advocates, namely Kevin Schlauch*, Lindsay Bliek*, Becca Cleaver Burke, Jessy Rajan, and Kourtney Brangan have started a petition to get the City to extend the 5 St SW cycle track south beyond 17 Ave SW. The petition is available to be signed at several businesses in the Beltline area. Please check out and sign the petition at any of these locations and support safer cycling and active transport options (this will benefit scooters, too as per the ByLaw change**, so share this with some of those Lime and Bird users that might not think about cycle track advocacy). Mad Max Ride & Beakerhead – Sept 21st !

Mad Max Ride's post-apocalyptic themed parade is joining Beakerhead's Spectacle this time! Show up in your Mad Max themed costume, ride with us from the Riverwalk (East Village) to The Spectacle (Prince's Island Park) and be part of a spectacular night. All non-motorized transportation (bikes, skateboards, skates, scooters, etc.) is welcome to participate. The first 100 people to register get free entrance to Beakerhead`s Spectacle. Tickets are now on sale for the annual YYC Bike Awards & Celebration! Join us to celebrate Calgary's cycling community and help raise some funds for Bike Calgary. The annual YYC Bike Awards acknowledge contributions to cycling in Calgary by advocates, commuters, businesses, and schools. If you'd like to nominate someone, check out the webpage or fill out the nomination form. Purchase tickets to the celebration through Event Brite. Lock it Right Bike security is made up of a simple equation: (Apparent Ease of Taking) + (Value Possible) = (Incentive to Try) If a bike looks easy to take, it probably is. Slip the lock up and over a pole? Easy. Tiny cable lock? Just use cable cutters. If a bike looks like it is a quick $100+ sale (regardless of the actual value of the bike), it’s a reason to grab it and sell it quick to anyone online. Make it easy, and make it look valuable, and you’ll find thieves are highly incentivized to try to take the bike. On the other hand, if you make it look hard, and if you make it look less desirable, you’ll see few, if any, attempts to steal your wheels.…

Bike Calgary has two dates scheduled in July for the Commuter Cycling Skills course - Saturday, July 20th and Saturday, July 27th. Since you're visiting the Bike Calgary website (or following us on social media), it's likely you are already a comfortable urban rider, but you probably know someone who could use a little more comfort and confidence traveling around Calgary by bike. Tell them about this course! It's a great way to learn the rules of the road and gain confidence. Maybe you'll introduce someone to this wonderful way to get around our city!

New dates added for Commuter Cycling Skills course

Bike Calgary has announced some new dates for the Commuter Cycling Skills course! Saturday, June 29 Saturday, July 20 Saturday, July 27 Note that some online pre-work is required, so please ensure you register a few days before the course date. Registration will close prior to the date of the course. All courses are being held at CommunityWise in the Beltline (223 - 12 Ave SW). Please contact training@bikecalgary.org for more information.

Bike to Work Day – Friday, May 3rd
