Pedal Poll 2026

It’s that time of year again! Calgary will be participating in our fifth official year of the Vélo Canada Bikes Pedal Poll / Sondo Vélo happening between June 2nd – June 7th and we need your help to count. The sites have been chosen and dates will be Tuesday, June 2nd and Saturday, June 6th but may shift to another day in the week based on weather and smoke conditions. If you have flex days or are looking for a way to help the biking community and participate as a citizen scientist, watch this space for sign up instructions. As a focus community, we will be coordinating a “snap shot” across the city in multiple locations, with counters at each location throughout the day. The data gathered helps Bike Calgary continue to advocate for better infrastructure, and helps elevate the need for continued National Active Transportation Funding.

New count mode for 2026:

Micromobility and active transportation

Canadian communities are seeing a surge in micromobility, creating both opportunities and challenges for planners, governments, industry and users. To capture a snapshot of these diverse travel modes, we are launching a new micromobility count taking place over five days between June 2nd and 7th, 2026.

Volunteer counters will help measure the presence of these emerging micromobilty modes and at the same time contribute new longitudinal data for Pedal Poll’s key metric: people on bikes.

Registrations to support this year’s count will open soon. While you wait, check out the full 2025 count data as well as the information from 2022-2025. As you can see from the graphics, it is pretty easy for Bike Calgary to advocate against painted bike lanes when the numbers tell this clear a story.
