Winter Bike Day Wrap Up and Raffle Winners

A huge thank you to all that came out to celebrate winter biking in Calgary this year! We had a lovely dusting of snow to start the event, followed by a gorgeous sunny day, so ideal for winter riding. While we never caught up to the Swedes, we finished in 14th place in the Winter Bike to Work online competition, even though we know from our inner city bike counters we would have topped them all 😉

We have two prize packs including a $25.00 Sidewalk Citizen Gift Card, a Winter Cycling Congress T-Shirt and a copy of Streetfight. The winning numbers are numbers 781473 and 781504. Please contact kimberley@bikecalgary.org with a picture of your ticket to claim!

A sincere thank you to everyone that joined us in the mall, including :

  • That’s Bicycle Snowplow in the yellow by Ridley’s! Lovely snowy ride. Surprisingly warm. Nice to see you again Jeff!

Been a busy year writing. Published second book, The Double Edged Blade of Life on Apple iBooks to compliment the Bicycle Snowplow Book on Lulu.com/spotlight/bicyclesnowplow

  • Winter is a very special time for me because every year the Bicycle Snowplow season returns and pathways need a little extra help with snow removal since not all pathways are cleared by the city. It’s my favourite time of year helping clear sidewalks and pathways in my neighbourhood with my two foot 2020 X-Wing plow and my heavy duty 3 foot wide sidewalk plow. It’s also a great time to read up on this newly developed snowplow technologies beside a cozy fire with a glass of eggnog. This year I’m switching from an ebike to a 21 speed mountain bike to get back into shape for next summer. More gears equals easier pedalling.

These plows are the easiest and safest ways to remove snow from sidewalks while walking or out for a jog. You don’t need a bike but a bike will get the job done faster. No more shovelling or back breaking work lifting heavy shovels of snow. Just pull the plow and let it do all the work. On icy sidewalks I strap some studs onto my footwear and just lean forward, letting gravity do most of the work. Amazingly easy to do even in fairly deep snow that would be back breaking work.

This year I built a 30 pound bicycle tent trailer. Who knows what bicycle projects next year will bring!

Bicycle Snowplowing is a great way to slow down, enjoy winter cycling, help neighbours clear sidewalks, and build endurance for next year’s bike racing season or for those of you who love bike camping and long touring rides!
