The transit authority were just puffing their chest out, thats what they like to do as cushy union job members. They dont know any better. But I agree to cooperate with them, stroke their ego’s and things usually turn out well.
I have often wondered about the train platforms downtown, how is a person suppose to know its a train station vs sidewalk, aside from the obvious of course. Its a free fare zone so no need to post signs or install gates.
I ride each and every day.
I built a new ebike now, front hub motor that is quite weak because I need a better controller with higher amps discharge and a temp probe in the motor windings. It forces me to pedal now.
Pathways in Fishcreek are in good condition. They are building new structures by Macleod Trail so I took a ride around the fence and looked. Not sure why they decided to demolish and build new as the old structures were just fine. What they really need to do is redo the pathway from the underpass of Macleod Trail to the gate of the parking lot. Also cracks by the water treatment by Sikome need to be fixed, they only fixed one or two of the major cracks at the restaraunt parking lot. Was thinking it wouldnt cost them that much to grind out every crack and fill with asphalt. Should be what our Carbon Taxes pay for! Also I am still disappointed in our bus system as every bus should have a bicycle rack, again Carbon Tax should pay for that but its not. I would let the exception go for the smaller buses.
The pathway from 22X, east side of the river up the ridge needs to have proper drainage as the water melts and freezes all along the zig zag pathway up the ridge.
There should also be a pathway on 22X about 5′ from the side of the road following the merge into the community and the strip mall.
The other side has spots where the asphalt has collapsed into the sluegh.
The new construction at the end of the pathway, has the pathway closed from the river to the roundabout at the bottom of the hill. Not that easy to get around as the dirt pile is quite steep. Lots of dog walkers in the area.
The water treatment plant down the road from that, basically at Deerfoot is always busy. No complaints other then the parking stall outlets do not work with my ebike battery charger, so its quite a trek up the ridge to the little strip mall which has zero 120V outlets. But lots of showhomes to draw power from.
So the zig zag pathway, goes from McKenzie down to Deerrun, by the golf course, likes to have standing water between the bridge and the zig zag pathway.
Some of the rich home owners are doing their own laying of gravel on top of the ridge on the ice.
I took a ride by the other side of Deerfoot and Anderson, used to be a gravel site there. There is new habitat and rerouting of a water channel for the bow. Someone has placed a non standard bench on the north side. Kinda cool, must be someones relaxation spot. Not good for fishing however.
Southland dog park seems to be in decent shape, aside from the speed bumps that are useless as there are tracks around the bumps. Further north, they took out the benches, seems like some bums been camping there. The half fences have been opened up in spots.
Glenmore over the Bow, the habitat area is not marked off as it is on the pathway following Deerfoot.
There needs to be a pathway from the Automall up to Costco, have to go down to strip mall and open field by the McD’s up to Walmart and double back to Costco. The pathway up the hill is in good shape. Up past the Lambo/Porsche/RangeRover stealerships. Should be a pathway at the light, north side as its just grass.
The Chinook Mall overpass is quite strange, I mean I understand it, but they should have kept the actual crosswalk and not block it off with some artistic blockages with no signs. I ran into a mall security guy taking a rest in the +15, he said bicycles are not allowed. They also closed the underpass, but the Home Depot pedestrian overpass is still there.
I ride every single day of the year, its always great to ride, even when its very cold out with lots of snow. I just need to find a bicycle frame builder who can fix my bike, if anyone knows of one, that would be great. Fix rear of my bike and fix the fork.
Thanks
I noticed the new multi-billion dollar hospital and area has no bike lanes at all, yet ultra wide sidewalks, with 2 sets of sidewalks on either side of the road, with tree’s. Also the multi-billion dollar hospital has useless bike racks with a measley 2 bolts to secure your multi-thousand dollar bicycle. Construction of the ring road, the contractors have no respect for sidewalk users with mounds of dirt over the sidewalk. The new road past 22X from Silverado to Macleod is a good ride, pathway on either side, even a pathway at the train tracks, circles around to a boarded up wall, I laughed when I saw that. City designers are useless, because even at that new road, southside from East (McD’s) to Westside, get stuck half way with 6 lanes to still cross. Total safety hazard, imagine a family or elderly crossing, there is an old age home right there. Safety is not a concern at City Hall.
