BSNYC is funny today. His lead-in to his new article in Outside will definitely lead you in.
“Seems to me that driving a car and hating cyclists instead of other drivers is like taking a crap in a burning house and complaining about which way someone hung the toilet paper.”
I know whose fault it was – I saw the first crocuses on the hill in Bowmont Park the other day and that is usually a signal for MORE SNOW!
Too bad the Bylaw Boyz never saw the guy on the e-Trike that buzzed by me at over 50 kmh this morning! YIKES!
I got cheated by that closure as well yesterday. I was going to Tuscany and had to go back to 85 Street to cross the river. Not really sure what the City is doing there, as the closure notice says “Closed for creation of a temporary structure for the detour below Stoney Tr., as part of the road widening project. Work will be phased.”
????????????????????????????????
Is that the building where the Brewers Apprentice is?
Well, that’s easy to get around.
This article is much more depressing (I’m gonna’ make a T-shirt that says “Not Fully Human!”)
Over half of drivers don’t think of cyclists as fully human leading to aggression on the road
I’m still puzzlin’ out over what is going to happen along Memorial Next Week? I’ve seen the signs over the last 2 days that say “… closed Apr.1 to Apr. 20 9:00 am to 7:00 pm -check at Calgary.ca,” but when I did yesterday, it only mentioned 4 days in 2 different locations. Today, it shows NOTHING!
It would be nicer to have the old system back, so I could plan my detour in advance, SSSIIGGHHHHHHHH….
With the good comes the bad.
They finally turned on the new traffic lights at Sien Lok Park (Riverbend Ave. and 1st Street SW) yesterday. Going home (heading north) last night was good, and I was actually kinda’ pleased that they were there, even though I had to stop and wait, because I felt safer as I didn’t have to contend with the usual traffic BS that occurs there. Things like people blocking the crosswalk & intersection and people passing on the right (IN A PLAYGROUND ZONE!!!). However, coming in (heading south) this morning was not as pleasant, I got squeezed into the middle of the road by a guy who was heading east then turned south, YIKES! Not really sure what the answer is here? Maybe there should be a “no right turn on red” sign there to protect the high number of cyclists that use that ingress point?
I did it, I let the summer bike out of the stable. ANNDD, was pleasantly surprised to see that a lot of the ice and puddles had disappeared even since last night, WOOHOO! Too bad I’m going skiing next week, I think I might be missing a lot of nice riding…..
Bowmont can be interesting in the spring, sort of like the picture above, in that it provides both water hazards and luge tracks!!!
The water hazard I mentioned earlier is gone now, just a short 15 foot puddle, not too deep, so No Picture….
Thinking about using the summer bike tomorrow.
Marine Weather Forecast –
There was a HUGE flooded section on the pathway in lower Bowmont Park because the new stormwater settling pond overflowed. Conditions after the temperature rises probably won’t improve, so I’m taking the high road through Varsity on the way home tonight, and probably for the rest of the week.
Problems with Lime Scooters – I hope this doesn’t happen with their bikes as well…..
GO BUY SOME CAMO SHORTS!
WOOHOO!
The City finally cleared the ramps under the Crowchild bridge on the north side of the Bow. It’s rideable but still a little bit squirrelly.BUUUUTT,
Getting out of my neighbourhood is a nasty ice & brownsnow challenge.Hair dryer or worse! I got hit by a gusty downdraft off the Sun Life building yesterday that was so strong it almost blew me into a parked car…..
But I agree, the paths are in great shape – I’ve been riding my summer bike since the middle of December.
