North Hill Area – Bikeway Traffic Calming Survey

As part of their Neighbourhood Streets Project, the City of Calgary has implemented some temporary traffic calming measures in the communities of Crescent Heights, Mount Pleasant, and Tuxedo Park. These changes divert traffic with the intention of lowering cut-through traffic volumes on 2 Street NW and 1 Street NE. Diagonal Diverter for motor vehicles at 2 St NW and 22 St NW 2 Street NW and 1 Street NE are well-used neighbourhood bikeways in these communities and Bike Calgary is reviewing community feedback and looking to learn more about this pilot, which has the potential to increase user safety and comfort. Learning from a near-miss

Bike Calgary received an email from a motorist about such an incident involving one of our downtown intersections. Our Intersection Design Team (part of our Infrastructure group) immediately jumped into action and visited the location at 12th and 9th. Residential Speed Limits Public Hearing Nov. 2nd

Calgary City Council will again be hearing from citizens at a public hearing meeting of council as to whether speed limits should be reduced on residential streets. This will be done by changing the "default" speed limit in the city from the current 50 km/h. Higher-speed roads would have speed limit signs clarifying any differences from the default speed limit. Virtual Information Sessions – Eau Claire, 3rd Ave, Jaipur Bridge and Centre Street Pathway Ramp

The City of Calgary is investing in Eau Claire, Chinatown and the East Village to enhance areas where Calgarians can proudly participate in a desirable, active and lively cultural destination. (thank you Bike Calgary volunteers for helping with the video, which can be seen here). The projects in the area combine flood protection, lifecycle improvements, upgrades to public spaces and walking and cycling paths, enhanced safety measures, all with the goal of building and maintaining downtown vibrancy. Mobility connections can be achieved through a 5A Network “Phase 1”

What if we had an alternate affordable option for transportation that meant we could leave our cars at home? What if people of all abilities could access our pathway systems and it was interconnected to and within communities and allowed our children to use them to get to school safely? Suburban, New and Downtown Communities linked up to each other and to our transportation network? #sharedstreets is seeking support to enable Calgary to access federal funding to help us achieve some of this. Last week, members of Bike Calgary's infrastructure task force took a spin through Inglewood to check out some new intersection improvements and a short section of raised cycle track along 9 Avenue SE.
