The final phase of public engagement is now open for the Kensington Area Improvements project located in the northwest communities of West Hillhurst and Hillhurst/Sunnyside. The improvements include raised islands and curb extensions to shorten the crossing distance for pedestrians and to improve their visibility to drivers. Vélo Canada Bikes, local advocacy organizations, and localgovernment will be able to use the data in their work to make cycling a part of theirtransportation and recreation networks. On December 20, the City of Calgary announced that the Alberta Ability Network and Bike Calgary were the recipients of the City’s Transportation Opportunities Award. The award recognized Alberta Ability Network and Bike Calgary’s “Safe and Accessible Pathways” initiative. Here is a video that the City put together interviewing the award recipients. The City of Calgary is looking for feedback on three possible options for cycling and pedestrian improvements on 34 Ave SW, between Crowchild Trail and 14 St SW. This is being completed as part of the City's Main Streets work in Marda Loop on 33 Ave and 34 Ave SW. 34 Ave SW - South Calgary / Altadore 34 Avenue SW is noted on the City's 5A Network Map as a Recommended On-Street bikeway. The avenue connects many local businesses in the Marda Loop Business Improvement Area (BIA) including attractions such as the Garrison Woods Safeway and Village Ice Cream. As part of the Main Streets work, both 33 and 34 Ave SW are scheduled to receive streetscape upgrades. No bicycling upgrades are planned for 33 Avenue, so 34 Avenue…

Following last years pilot ride, Tegh Singh (SGT Jesse Jones) and Pete Spearing are cycling again to commemorate our veterans and to raise funds for the Veterans Transition Network. The 35km route will contain Calgary’s military monuments and buildings on the 11th November, making a video blog at each point. The ride is raising funds through donations of support, with all the proceeds going to the Veterans Transition Network. You can donate through the GoFundme page here (where you can also get a tax receipt). Tegh Singh (SGT. Jesse Jones) is originally from Southern California. He enlisted in the US Army at age 18 and served for over 6 years as a Fire Support Specialist.
