A group of local cycling advocates, namely Kevin Schlauch*, Lindsay Bliek*, Becca Cleaver Burke, Jessy Rajan, and Kourtney Brangan have started a petition to get the City to extend the 5 St SW cycle track south beyond 17 Ave SW. The petition is available to be signed at several businesses in the Beltline area. Please check out and sign the petition at any of these locations and support safer cycling and active transport options (this will benefit scooters, too as per the ByLaw change**, so share this with some of those Lime and Bird users that might not think about cycle track advocacy). Bike Calgary would like to thank everyone for their nominations for this year's YYC Bike Awards. We were excited to see so many Calgarians recognized in all categories by their cycling community. The awards will be given out at the YYC Bike Awards & Celebration event occurring on Friday, September 20th. Buy your tickets and come celebrate this great community. Do you wish you could make a few extra bucks during your commute? Well, the employees at WSP can do just that by choosing to ride their bike to work. With the goal of bringing together the multiple WSP offices and business lines as well as creating a community of sustainability and wellness, WSP believed that incorporating cycling in their employees’ daily commutes would be the perfect vehicle (pun intended). To jumpstart this initiative, they introduced some healthy competition and incentives. Colleagues track each others’ rides through leaderboards on the Strava app. As well, participants receive $0.10/km commuted by bicycle to-and-from work and three prizes of $150 are given out every month. Since April 1st, close to 65 employees have signed up and have ridden ~15,000 km! For more information…

Bike Calgary has two dates scheduled in July for the Commuter Cycling Skills course - Saturday, July 20th and Saturday, July 27th. Since you're visiting the Bike Calgary website (or following us on social media), it's likely you are already a comfortable urban rider, but you probably know someone who could use a little more comfort and confidence traveling around Calgary by bike. Tell them about this course! It's a great way to learn the rules of the road and gain confidence. Maybe you'll introduce someone to this wonderful way to get around our city!
